Tsawalk Community Society

Rooted in culture. Building pathways for community, skills, and opportunity.

Welcome

Tsawalk Community Society supports Indigenous people living away from their home communities — including those living, working, or studying in urban areas.

We create opportunities to reconnect with culture, build skills, and participate in community through practical, community-led initiatives.

What We Do

Culture & Community

Supporting cultural programming, including art, language, gatherings, and shared spaces that strengthen identity, connection, and belonging.

Food & Land-Based Initiatives

Advancing Indigenous food security through harvesting, processing, and community-based food systems that reconnect people to land and water.

Skills & Workforce Pathways

Creating opportunities for youth and community members to build skills, gain experience, and explore meaningful economic pathways.

Current Work

Indigenous Food Systems Project (ISAT)

Tsawalk Community Society is currently delivering an Indigenous food systems project in partnership with NISA, supported through the Indigenous Food Systems and Agriculture Skills and Training (ISAT) Program.

This initiative focuses on the harvesting, processing, and distribution of kelp and seaweed on Vancouver Island, while providing hands-on learning opportunities for Indigenous youth and community members to reconnect with land and water-based practices.

The project supports Indigenous food security, builds practical skills, and explores future economic opportunities connected to land- and water-based food systems.

Our Approach

We believe the knowledge, skills, and solutions already exist within community.

Our role is to support, connect, and help bring these forward through practical, community-driven work.
